Oh the humanity!!! I had only two Brandywine tomatoes growing and they were just entering the ripening phase, and then something began to eat them!!! The 1st day I noticed one had been nibbled and the other was untouched. Then the next morning the 1st one was 1/2 eaten and the other had been violated! […]

Wiya in the front seat…
Wiya, on the other hand, loves to be in the front seat where she can see everything and closely watch it all.
Silly dogs…
…closely watching me eat smoked BBQ ribs at a friends house (104°F! in September in Fullerton CA, in the evening!!!) in hopes of scoring some for themselves. HA! No pork ribs for dogs. Bad for their tummies. However, I’m sure these rascals will shortly con me out of something else…
Kohla in the front seat…
Kohla very little interest in the outside world (right now) and prefers to either rest her head on the center console and watch me, or simply sit and watch me with a rapt gaze and those silly ears (I think there are already pictures of this earlier in the blog).
A few more tomatoes and an eggplant…
Apparently the cherry tomatoes were not completely done and we got several more. Also, we picked one of our 2 eggplants. They don’t seem to be getting any deeper in color — they should be deep purple — or any bigger — just under 6 in. — so we wondered if something was wrong. Turns […]
All the carrots are pulled…
All the carrots have been pulled. They’re not very big but that’s ok, live and learn. The soil is a bit clay-like and needs to be tilled with some sand before the fall planting… which oddly enough carrots are a part of in SoCal. So I guess we will have another harvest in November or […]

The last of the cucumbers…
We picked the last of the cucumbers this morning and then ripped out the remaining vines. This gives the watermelons more room to grow, of which we found a new one. That’s a welcome surprise. We’ll pull the rest of the carrots in the next day or so and then decide what to plant in […]
Probably the last of the cherry tomatoes…
The vines of the tomatoes and cucumbers are looking a bit ragged. Things are beginning to wind down. This is probably the last crop of cherry tomatoes. We’ll pick the last of the carrots and cucumbers this weekend and then clear out that area, prepare the soil, and plant something for the change of season.
A modest Saturday harvest..
We’re finally getting to pull some carrots, and the cucumbers are winding down. Sometime back we actually split our cucumber crop. We had a 6ft row of Sumter cucumbers but we then split that into (2) 3ft rows, transplanted out 3ft of Sumter cucumbers we gave away, and planted 3ft of Marketmore’s. Unfortunately the latter […]
Finally some Brandywine tomatoes…
Finally some Brandywine tomatoes begin to form. There are hi hopes that these will approximate those you can get on the east coast.
